Hurricane Helene

Since the Hurricane Helene has destoried my beautiful city; I’ve found it hard to pick up my camera or capture any moments. I've been in surivial mode. Trying to make calls, get to loved ones, contact family back home or figure out where to get water & food. But after eight days of this new normal, I felt the urge to create something meaningful. I headed over to the River Arts District and took some photos that express that sentiment.

This next set features images from The Getaway River Bar, a place that holds countless memories for me. When I first laid eyes on the remnants of what was once our beloved bar, I was overwhelmed with emotion. Seeing the bar, the fish tank, and the little reminders of what it used to be was truly heartbreaking. Through these images, I hope to honor the spirit of this space and the memories we shared.

Asheville holds a special place in the hearts of all who visit, and it’s inspiring to think that those experiences can translate into love and support for our community. Imagine if Airbnb owners transformed their properties into affordable long-term rentals, or if the mutual aid and anarchist communities continued to grow stronger. Picture our hotels becoming vibrant artist hubs, fostering creativity and collaboration.

Despite the challenges we face, there’s an undeniable spirit of hope and humanity in the air. Countless volunteers and helpers are stepping up, showing up for one another in remarkable ways. Together, we can rebuild Asheville and WNC, infusing our efforts with the heart, love, and creativity that have long defined this area. Let's harness that energy and create a new future together.

If you want to donate to me or any of these organizations it would be very appreciative.

Love,

Veronica
